Surrendering Your Dog

We are currently not accepting surrender requests. Updated November 15, 2023

What does the surrender process look like?

We know that surrendering a pet is a heartbreaking decision, and one that is not taken lightly. Our caring and no judgement management team will support you and your dog throughout the surrender process. We will start by explaining the process. We respect you and your right to confidentiality. During the surrender process we will ask you for some personal information about yourself and will take a copy of your Government Issued Photo ID. We require any and all documentation that you have for your dog, including identification, city licence, vetting records etc. This information is never passed on to future adopters or used for any purpose other than the legal requirements related to the surrender. Once all the documentation is completed we will start a behavioural assessment on your dog. If the dog is a fit for our program we will then sign the Surrender Agreement. When the Surrender Agreement is signed we allow you to say our goodbyes and leave.

What happens to my dog after I surrender?

By surrendering your dog to Tails of The Misunderstood Canine Rescue Society, you will ensure that your dog is provided with the highest quality of care throughout their adoption journey. Your dog will stay at our management teams home so our veterinarian can provide a health exam and any and all medical treatment that is needed. We do this with every dog that is accepted in our rescue. While in our rescue, all dogs are cared for by our compassionate and loving foster homes. We want this to be as stress free as possible for your dog. They receive enrichment and support from our trainers if needed to address any behaviour concerns they may exhibit. When your dog is ready for adoption, potential adoptees will be carefully screened to ensure the best possible match with the new family.

Will I be updated?

When you surrender your dog to Tails of The Misunderstood Canine Rescue Society we offer the option of being contacted with updates. If you would like to stay updated with the process of your dog we will ask you to email us and as soon as our President or Vice President has a moment they will email you the update on your dog.

Can I be in contact with the adoptive owners?

Unfortunately when you surrender and an adopter adopts it is in the best interest of each party to keep it confidential. If the adoptive owners ask to share updates with the surrender family we will be more than happy to.
